Future London: Footprints of a generation

Food - Eat What You Like

Food - Eat What You Like

Environmental

Organic crops contain significantly higher levels of nutrients compared with conventional produce, including vitamin C, magnesium, iron and phosphorous.

Organic farms contain 85% more plant species, 33% more bats, 17% more spiders and 5% more birds.

Social

If just 1,000 people gave up eating beef once a week they would save 1.5 billion gallons of water and stop more than 60,000 pounds of fertilizer from being released into the water table.

There are now 500 Farmers’ Markets across the UK, with 14 in London.

Economic

Organic food sales in the UK double every two years and now exceed £1billion.

For every £10 spent on local organic vegetables, £25 is generated for the local rural economy.

If we bought more local and organic produce and took a bus, bike or walked to these food shops rather than use a car, the UK would make more than £4billion in environmental savings.
