Future London: Footprints of a generation

About Future London

We consume and waste far too much of the earth’s resources, yet living sustainably is a really easy and affordable option.

Future London sees “going green” as the modern way forward, and offers a positive and simple set of choices for all of us to make.

Questioning the legacy we will leave for future generations, Future London shows how it is not too late to change our environmental footprint.

Major Changes

London 2012 is fast approaching, and with your help we are aiming to make London the exemplary sustainable world city.

The Mayor of London and GLA are working hard to instigate many major changes as we speak. For example, the Mayor is setting tougher planning rules to make new developments greener, and plans to create a Low Emission Zone in the city, with fines for lorries, coaches and buses.

We can expect major improvements over the coming years to the structure of London’s energy, waste, transport and open spaces. The wheels of change are turning…

Small Steps, Big Effects

As well as the changes coming from above, Future London wants to get you thinking about the way you live and hopefully inspire you to make some small everyday changes too.

Whether you swap over to energy saving lightbulbs, put a bird box in your garden or start buying more locally grown fruit and veg - these little steps really matter.

All these things can help to improve quality of life for you and your family, as well as the shape of your local environment.

Environmental, Social & Economical Benefits

The environmental impact of living sustainably is significant, and can help protect the unique ecosystems, habitats and wild species that we all need and depend upon.

Socially, living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle brings better public health, better quality of life and helps care for future generations.

But did you know that going green is also economically beneficial? It can reduce your household bills and is good for competitive business.

The Exhibition

The accompanying interactive exhibition revolves around choices; the choice to live sustainably or unsustainably.

We illustrate the choices and then the consequences, making it easier to see the link between individual actions and the local, national and global impacts.

Make a date in your diary to go; you will be surprised at how much you learn.
